Traditional Worship

The sacrament of Christ's body and blood, and the principal act of Christian worship. The term is from the Greek, “thanksgiving.” Jesus instituted the eucharist “on the night when he was betrayed.” At the Last Supper he shared the bread and cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. The Last Supper provides the basis for the fourfold eucharistic action of taking, blessing, breaking, and sharing. Christ's body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the eucharist and received by faith. Christ's presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community.

Service Matters

The word acolyte means is derived from the Greek word akolouthos, which means "attendant" or "one who helps". Anyone who serves as an Acolyte is joining the ranks of those who have helped with the worship service since the early Christian church. At St. Paul’s by the Sea, youth are eligible to serve as an Acolyte when they enter the 4th grade and can continue until their graduation from high school. Acolytes are an integral part of the weekly worship service and on occasion their assistance is needed at funerals, weddings and special services. They also decorate the church for Pentecost and host Coffee Hour once a year.

Making Services Smooth

This group serves by preparing for church services. The AltarGuild works directly with the priest to help the worship life of the parish run smoothly. Duties include preparing the Altar for the Eucharist, cleaning up after ther service, and providing care of the linens and vestments.

The First Face You See

Ushers work as a welcoming commitee, serving at both Sunday services, which allows these services to run smoothly.
